Tech Platform Shift
Many believe we're seeing the next tech platform shift take place. After the web came social/mobile/cloud and since the crypto and VR bubbles have (mostly) popped, is generative AI next?
With strong media coverage, mainstream users are rushing to try it, and entrepreneurs and creating more applications every day. We're still too early to see software companies make money from it, but chip manufacturers are surely primed for revenue increases. A good analogy there is the gold rush of 1849 when a few speculators left with riches, but the long-term winners were those who sold picks and axes (aka Levi Strauss).
There will likely be at least 10 unicorns ($1B+ valuation) coming from this latest platform shift, but will any rival the revenue growth from the tech giants who became winners in the last boom cycle?
This is how quickly internet pioneers grew revenue from year 1 to year 5:
Facebook — 712x
Google — 6,663x
Amazon —3,209x
Yahoo — 353x
Netscape — 129x
Are any current startups growing revenue this fast?
