FTC Warns: 'Keep your AI claims in check'

I just ran across this article from the Advertising Division of the FTC highlighting the need for businesses to temper their AI claims. With all the enthusiasm around AI (especially generative AI), companies have realized they can increase their valuation and pricing simply by pronouncing they are using AI. I agree with the FTC's 4-point list of questions and would encourage the buyers of AI solutions to ask the same questions:

  1. Are you exaggerating what your AI product can do?

  2. Are you promising that your AI product does something better than a non-AI product?

  3. Are you aware of the risks?

  4. Does the product actually use AI at all?
